Representative Brandi Bradley's Bi-weekly Newsletter, your Capitol Connection!
Dear District 39 Residents,
I hope this message finds you in good health and spirits. As your representative, it is my duty to keep you informed about the legislative happenings under the Capitol dome. In this edition of The Bradley Bulletin, we delve into the recent defeat of a critical bill, HB24-1092, aimed at combating human trafficking and protecting our children from exploitation.
Legislative Battle Report: HB24-1092
In the previous newsletter, I shared our efforts to push forward HB24-1092, a bill crucial for combating human trafficking, especially child exploitation. With bipartisan support and not a single lobbying firm opposing it, we faced unexpected challenges. On the Monday before the committee, Democrat leadership tried to remove Rep. English(D) from the bill, citing potential death threats. Despite these obstacles, we faced the "Kill" Committee, where leadership sends conservative bills to die with the intention to impose a minimum 4-year sentence for buyers of children in Colorado. Astonishingly, these crimes are probation-eligible, even though in California, they warrant a 25-year sentence.
Despite over 50 testimonies supporting HB24-1092 from trafficked and sexual assault survivors, Democrats voted it down 8-3. This clear rejection signals their prioritization of offenders over the safety of our children.
In her closing statements, Rep. Epps revealed a shocking stance, expressing concern for offenders facing potential abuse in jail!?! This prioritization of criminals over the victims, our children, is unacceptable.
One person who testified against this bill (a pro-sex worker) claimed that the legislation would be harmful to LGBTQ kids who get kicked out of their homes and need a way to make money by prostituting their bodies. This statement, made on the record, underscores the heartbreaking and complex challenges we face in advocating for the safety of our children.
Twitter Backlash and Accountability
Since the defeat of the bill, Democrats and Twitter activists have expressed their anger. They've even gone so far as to threaten legal action against me for calling them out by name. I am within my First Amendment rights, expressing myself over how the 8 democrats voted. It's disheartening to witness their prioritization of offenders over the safety of our children. Ironically, Rep. Goodwin accuses me of inciting violence against those who voted against protecting trafficked children, yet these legislators would not stand against the predators who have violently assaulted children. To say this mama bear is mad is an understatement; I am appalled daily at what the Democrat party is doing to ruin our beautiful state.
In response, I spoke with Jeff & Bill on KNUS to share my perspective on what happened.
Your voice matters! If you feel passionate about holding these 8 legislators accountable, reach out to them directly. Let them know that prioritizing offenders over children is unacceptable.

10 AM Upon Adjournment. Location: Basement room 0107 - House Education.
Please consider attending to provide your testimony in support of employing technology utilized in schools to detect instances where a child brandishes a firearm promptly. Upon detection, the system triggers a real-time feed that instantaneously reaches the School Resource Officer (SRO) and law enforcement, providing them with precise location details and the identification of the individual involved. It's important to note that this program operates on an opt-in basis, and there is a grant program available for schools interested in implementing this advanced safety measure. I firmly believe that this bill holds the potential to mitigate gun violence in schools significantly, and I am honored to sponsor this crucial legislation.
2. March 4th - Foreign Ag Ownership & Pro-Life Bills
These bills have been directed to the committee often referred to as the "Kill Committee." If these issues resonate strongly with you, I invite you to make an effort to attend.
